Chambliss Attorney Jim Exum Listed as a Rule 31 Mediator
Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel, P.C. litigation attorney Jim Exum is now listed as a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 General Civil Mediator after completing the required education, training, and work experience.
“I am honored to have earned my Rule 31 Mediator designation,” said Jim Exum. “This opportunity will allow me to step out of my normal role as a litigator and take on one of a neutral facilitator. I hope to strengthen the depth of my practice by accepting this responsibility of bringing about peaceful resolution.”
The role of a Rule 31 Mediator is to act as an impartial aid for those in a dispute, managing the mediation session and ultimately assisting in the resolution. The mediator works with both parties to identify common issues, develop possible solutions, and support and advise throughout the process until an agreement is reached that is acceptable to all involved parties.
Jim has tackled complex, high-stakes litigation as a member of Chambliss’ litigation and risk management group. His clients — ranging from individuals and families to government and municipal officers — seek his counsel in disputes across Tennessee and Georgia. He often counsels families in domestic divorce and child custody cases as well as clients facing government investigations and potential criminal liability.
Best Lawyers in America® recently recognized Jim for insurance law, and he was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award by Legal Aid of East Tennessee in 2022 for assisting more than 50 clients in phone clinics and individual representation. He served on the Board of Directors for the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) from 2017-2022 and is a certified Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) administrative hearing officer. Exum earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga prior to graduating from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.
