Justice Barker Named Top University of Tennessee 100 Distinguished Alumni
Chambliss attorney Justice Muecke Barker was recently selected as a Top 100 Distinguished Alumni in the University of Tennessee network as part of the UT Alumnus magazine’s centennial year. Justice Barker graduated from the University of Chattanooga (now UT Chattanooga) in 1964. He earned his law degree at the University of Cincinnati and practiced from 1967 to 1983 when he was appointed to the Circuit Court of the Eleventh Judicial District of Tennessee. In 1995, he was appointed to the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals and was elected by Tennessee voters in August 1996. He was appointed to the Tennessee Supreme Court by Gov. Don Sundquist in 1998. In 2005, Justice Barker was unanimously chosen by his colleagues to become Chief Justice. He retired from the Supreme Court in September 2008 and has been Of Counsel at Chambliss for the last nine years.
