Former U.S. Attorney Bill Killian Joins Chambliss Law
Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel, P.C. announces former presidentially appointed U.S. Attorney William “Bill” C. Killian has joined the firm. Bill will concentrate his practice in assisting clients with regulatory investigations, white collar criminal defense, and governmental law.
Bill has been trying cases for more than 40 years and has extensive experience in representing, advising, and defending clients in governmental and administrative matters and white collar criminal defense cases. He had been lead counsel in high-stakes fraud mediations and negotiations, national security investigations, and multi-million dollar corporate settlements.
As the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee (2010-2015), he brings a wealth of knowledge to Chambliss and will proactively work with clients to effectively address their legal needs. Through his many trials, Bill has extensive experience with federal, state, and local courts, including various state supreme courts. He has worked closely with local, state, and federal agencies, including the United States Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), FBI, and National Nuclear Security Administration.
“I have known many attorneys at Chambliss for as long as I have been practicing law,” said Bill. “Chambliss is known for its highly qualified lawyers and quality representation of its clients. I’m looking forward to being a part of this team and helping expand the firm’s capabilities in governmental compliance and investigations and white collar criminal defense.”
Bill will assist Chambliss’ clients in the health care, financial services, government utilities, manufacturing, and public service industries. When discussing client relationships, Bill notes that his priority is giving clients 100 percent effort in legal and ethical representation and educating clients on the proactive, efficient, and effective use of legal services.
Bill came to Chambliss from Polsinelli’s national government investigations and compliance – civil and criminal practice. As U.S. Attorney, he served on several Attorney General Advisory Committees: Civil Rights Subcommittee, Health Care Fraud Working Group, and National Security Subcommittee. He is currently serving and has served as a Hearing Officer for the Board of Professional Responsibility, was certified as a Civil and Criminal Trial Lawyer by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, and was an approved mediator for the Tennessee Supreme Court. Bill is a Mid-South Super Lawyer (2006-2010, 2016-2017). He also served in the U.S. Army and Tennessee National Guard.
“Bill is a great addition to the firm,” said Max Bahner, Senior Counsel at Chambliss. “His broad range of experience, especially as a former U. S. Attorney and trial lawyer, will complement the depth of talent in the firm’s litigation and governmental compliance practice groups.”
