Third Annual Embrace Aging Forum Encourages People to be Proactive on Aging and Caring for Others

Author of "How to Live Forever" Set to Give Keynote Address

Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel, P.C. invites the community to its Third Annual Embrace Aging Forum on August 22 that will connect people with resources to remain active and independent as they age. Open to all ages, attendees will hear from keynote speaker Marc Freedman, an awarding-winning social entrepreneur and author of "How to Live Forever: The Enduring Power of Connecting the Generations."

One of the nation’s foremost experts on aging, Dr. Ken Dychtwald, gave Freedman's book high praise, which he shared with the publisher.

"Longevity is humanity's new frontier, and Marc Freedman is one of its greatest explorers," stated Dr. Dychtwald. "In 'How to Live Forever,' he charts a path to improved relationships between young and old while providing a cornucopia of ideas for personal reinvention. This is the book we’ve all been waiting for."

For the first time in United States history, there are more people over 65 years of age than under 18, according to U.S. Census data, which also projects that the number of Americans over 65 will nearly double by 2060. At that point, people over 65 will make up 23% of the population – nearly a quarter of all Americans.

As members of the Elder Law practice area at Chambliss have witnessed, the opportunities and challenges facing baby boomers have changed how service providers respond and offer solutions. The Embrace Aging Forum is a way to showcase advancements in technology, housing and care, relationships, health and wellness, finances, and legal planning to help people lead their best lives.

"We live in a wonderful time right now where there are so many opportunities for life after retirement, and at Chambliss we want our community to know about their options," said Dana Perry, certified elder law attorney and practice group chair. "Through the Embrace Aging Forum, we are connecting people to some of the top resources and leaders in aging and helping families navigate tough topics with ease."

The forum on August 22 at the DoubleTree Hotel is for people of all ages like baby boomers – adults between 55 and 73 – and younger people who might be caring for a parent or other family member, or just want to know how to plan for their own future.

The event is also for caregivers and professionals who provide services to older adults. About a third of Americans spend an average of 20 hours per week providing care for a chronically ill, disabled, or aging family member or friend, according to the National Alliance for Caregiving.

Chambliss knows the stress and emotional strain that caregivers experience, which is why they've added the Caregiver's Corner to this year's forum. The exhibit will offer massages, giveaways of free home safety assessments, free blood pressure checks, a chair lift test-drive, a "Caregiver Burden" stress assessment, free advanced health care directives, and more.

Chambliss is thankful for the Embrace Aging Forum exhibitors and sponsors. The forum's Platinum Sponsor is Southeastern Trust Company, which has partnered with the event for the last three years. Other 2019 sponsors include Chattanooga Property Shop, Pinnacle Financial Partners, Thrive Senior Living, and Hospice of Chattanooga Alleo Health System.

Tickets are limited, but some are still available at General admission is $50, with a reduced rate of $30 for adults age 55 and older. Valet parking, breakfast, and lunch are included.
