Legal Assistant

General Statement of Duties:

This position provides clerical and administrative support on a wide variety of high level tasks for efficient daily operations. In addition to document preparation, filing and scheduling, performs duties such as coordination of meetings and conferences, managing travel arrangements, managing client relationships, assembling highly confidential and sensitive information, and managing special projects. Deals with a diverse group of important external callers and visitors as well as internal contacts at all levels of the organization. Work under moderate supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.


Minimum of five years of experience as legal assistant or relevant administrative work in a law office or professional services setting. Bachelor's Degree in Business Management or related field preferred. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with proven ability to understand and use styles required; ability to understand legal procedures and terminology. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations without oversight. Strong organizational, project management, and multi-tasking abilities. Excellent interpersonal skills.

Paralegal (3 positions)

1.  Estate Administration:
Perform a wide range of estate administration functions requiring knowledge of estate planning -- wills and trusts. Assist attorneys and other paralegals with all aspects of client matters from beginning to end including researching and reviewing real estate and other records; compiling financial data; preparing documents to file with court; developing and maintaining organized files with all client related documents; drafting legal documents and correspondence; maintaining calendars, ticklers and docketing; assembling and submitting information needed for client intake process; communicate with court; following up with clients as requested.

2.  Labor and Employment:
Perform a wide range of labor and employment functions requiring a knowledge of workers' compensation and general management-side employment law and litigation. Excellent draftsmanship for responding to discovery requests, summarizing of various records, depositions, etc., responsibility for keeping any required due dates, dockets organized and presented to attorneys in a timely fashion, knowledge of local courts, local filing rules/procedures, keeping of pleadings and other indices for matter and trials up to date, strategizing with attorneys on various discovery and trial matters, working with section assistant as is needed.

3.  Corporate/Business:
Perform a wide range of business related functions requiring support of business transactions including public reporting, regulatory compliance, entity formation, etc.  Assist attorneys and other paralegals in preparing annual reports and corporate minutes; maintaining corporate minute books; filing certificates; completing forms / paperwork necessary for regulatory compliance.

Requirements (for all 3 positions):
Associate's Degree in Paralegal Studies or related field; or three to five years of experience in a law office; Baccalaureate Degree preferred.
