Jim chairs the firm's Business Section and is a member of the firm's Health Care Section. He focuses his practice in the areas of counseling physicians groups, mental health facilities, hospitals and other health care providers, as well as handling a wide variety of business matters, for nonprofit and for-profit organizations involving contract negotiations, regulatory compliance, governance, tax related and other matters.
Among other accomplishments in nonprofit work, Jim has completed mergers of nonprofits, handled notification to and work with the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office for significant transactions, and worked to help resolve key governance issues and concerns for tax exempt organizations.
Among other accomplishments in healthcare related matters, Jim has successfully obtained for clients a positive advisory opinion from the Office of Inspector General, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, concerning a radiology joint venture and a debt compromise from the Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services and the U.S. Department of Justice. Jim also has worked extensively with regional and local clients under HIPAA to update their business associate agreements, notices of privacy practices and security and privacy rule based policies, and assisted such clients in responding to security incidents and potential breaches of unsecured protected health information.
