We are very honored to announce Gov. Haslam has appointed our colleague Alex McVeagh to temporarily fill the Hamilton County General Sessions Court seat. Starting May 1, Alex will act as a temporary replacement for Judge David Bales who has been on medical leave. Gov. Haslam said in an official statement on Wednesday, April 12, "I am pleased to appoint Alex McVeagh and appreciate his willingness to serve as special judge. His experience in both private practice and state government will serve Hamilton County well." Alex has been with our firm since 2013. While his background is in municipal, bankruptcy, and civil litigation law, he also previously worked on criminal cases in General Sessions and U.S. District Court and analyzed and drafted criminal laws while working for the Tennessee Senate Judiciary Committee and for the Tennessee District Public Defenders Conference prior to joining Chambliss. Alex is well-respected in the community and frequently performs pro bono work for local nonprofit organizations. He recently was recognized as the 2016 YLD Volunteer Lawyer of the Year by the Chattanooga Bar Association and was appointed to the board of directors for Legal Aid of East Tennessee.
